The Canadian Cultural Society of the Deaf (CCSD) is the parent organization of the DEAF CULTURE CENTRE. It is a non-profit registered charitable organization which was incorporated in 1973 to ensure that the cultural needs of Deaf and hard of hearing people are met. With your support we work to preserve and promote our heritage, to increase knowledge about Deaf culture and language and to increase understanding between Deaf and hearing culture.
Your donation will secure the operation of Deaf Children’s Festivals across the country so Deaf children can come together and share and learn from each other; as well as help to support the valuable programs operated through the CCSD and the DEAF CULTURE CENTRE. There are many examples of programs that your donation will help; such as the Youth Canada Tournament for the Deaf, expanding sign language literature and Deaf literature, expanding our Deaf heritage website in sign language for Deaf and hearing youth and adults, improving family literacy, annual provincial projects such as providing sign language consultants for parents of newly discovered Deaf children.
A much needed children’s sign language dictionary - the Animated ASL Dictionary for Children - and inspiring stories of Deaf lives are new CCSD projects in progress that need your support. We greatly appreciate all donations to our programs and projects.
What is an endowment?
Essentially, an endowment fund is one in which the base amount (the original donations and their value) is never spent. Donations are received, receipted and deposited in a fund with the explicit understanding of the donor that the original funds will be preserved. Gifts are placed in this specially designated fund and only the annual interest is available to maintain the operations of the DEAF CULTURE CENTRE. This fund is invested under the watchful eye of the Board of Directors. All donations for the endowment will be listed in this category. Your donation will always remain there.
An endowment will allow the CCSD and the DEAF CULTURE CENTRE to continue to provide the valuable programs to the Deaf community all across Canada. We need your help to make this a reality!
