DISTINGUISHED CULTURAL SERVICE AWARD
Initiated in 1972
This Distinguished Cultural Service Award is presented biennially by the CCSD Executive Committee to a provincial cultural society of the Deaf in recognition of its exceptional service to the Deaf Community over the previous two years. This award is given to the winning cultural society at a major cultural event officially sponsored by CCSD.
Criteria for this award is based on consistent, high quality service provided by the provincial cultural society of the Deaf in educational, cultural and social activities in support of better awareness and appreciation of Deaf Culture.

CCSD INTERNATIONAL SERVICE AWARD
Initiated in 1984
The CCSD International Service Award is presented biennially to an organization or individual serving Deaf people outside Canada in recognition of outstanding contributions to Deaf people, their culture and their heritage over the past five or more years. The award winner will be selected by the Canadian Cultural Society of the Deaf Executive Committee. The winner will be presented the the award at a major cultural event officially sponsored by CCSD.
Criteria for this award is based on achievements in improving the quality of life for Deaf persons.

CCSD DEAF PERSON OF THE YEAR AWARD
Initiated in 1984
The CCSD Deaf Person of the Year Award is presented biennially to a Deaf person in recognition of exceptional contributions to the Deaf Community, its culture and its quality of life. The award winner will be selected by the Canadian Cultural Society of the Deaf Executive Committee, and will be given the award at a major cultural event officially sponsored by CCSD.
Criteria for this award is based on commendable educational, community, occupational and social achievements in the Deaf community and culture, must be a Canadian citizen, 25 years or older, and recognized and nominated by an organization serving the Deaf community.

The CCSD Hall of Fame Award is presented biennially to a Deaf person over the age of 45 in recognition of exceptional and long term contributions to the Deaf community, its culture and its quality of life. The winner will be given the award at a major cultural event officially sponsored by CCSD.
Criteria for this award is based on commendable educational, community, occupational, social and personal achievements in the Deaf community and culture. The candidate must be a Canadian citizen, 45 years or older, recognized for exemplary achievements at a national level and nominated by the affiliated societies, recognized for contributions in the form of publications and research.

FOUNDER'S ORDER OF HONOUR AWARD
Initiated in 1980
Founder's Order of Honour is CCSD's highest honour! This special award was established by Forrest C. Nickerson, the first Exective Director who founded the CCSD in 1970 and incorporated it in 1973. The Founder's Order of Honour is awarded biennally to a Deaf person who sacrifices untold time and energy and creates a positive lasting image of Deaf people in Canada.
The first Founder's Order of Honour went to Angela Stratiy who, during the years 1973-1980, unselfishly gave her unlimited service not only to CCSD and its affiliations but to all of the provinces across Canada. This is the highest honour that the CCSD bestows.
Criteria for this highly esteemed award is based on creativity, effectiveness, leadership, length of service and recognition in support of Deaf people, their aspirations, and their needs.

THE KATHY DOLBY AWARD
Initiated in 2002
This award was originally set up by Carole Sue Bailey, one of the two Editors-in-chief of the Canadian Dictionary of ASL project, to show her sincere appreciation for Kathy Dolby, a hearing person, who devoted many years to the development of the Canadian Dictionary of ASL. For more than 20 years, she performed commendable service to the Deaf Community and in her strong advocacy for ASL and Deaf Culture. Kathy has also been a dedicated teacher of the Deaf, receiving a Provincial Excellence in Teaching Award in 2000.
This award will be presented biennally to a Hearing person in recognition of exceptional and long-term contributions to the Deaf Community, its culture and its quality of life. The award will be presented at a major cultural event officially sponsored by CCSD.
Criteria
- is a hearing person with a very positive attitude toward Deaf people
- is a strong advocate of ASL, Deaf Culture, Deaf Education, Deaf rights, etc.
- is a Canadian citizen
- has been involved with Deaf people for at least 20 years
- is highly recognized for her/his achievements at a national level
- has sacrificed untold time and energy and helped to create a positive image of Deaf people in Canada
- has contributed to publications and research that are positively related to Deaf people in areas such as ASL, Deaf Culture, Deaf education, etc.
